Andy Weir is no stranger to seeing his stories brought to life on screen but it looks like this Artemis adaptation might be last in line for his works. While big names were lined up fairly quickly, a new book release took precedent and the big names went with it.
Sci-Fi is a Hollywood favorite though and this project will eventually get made, we might just have to wait a while for it to happen.

About The Book:
Jazz Bashara is a criminal.
Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.
Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself—and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.

Artemis Adaptation Timeline:
In May 2017 the adaptation rights were acquired for the upcoming Andy Weir release, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller being announced as the directors in September. The book was then published in November 2017 and spent 9 weeks on the New York Times Best-Seller List as well as being voted Goodreads Awards Best Science Fiction (2017).
Ryan Gosling was announced as the lead in March 2020 with the trio also all signing on to work together on both Artemis and Project Hail Mary (Andy Weir’s newest but not-yet published book). Shortly after it was confirmed that Artemis was being put on hold and Project Hail Mary would be the film produced first.
There have been no further updates and most likely will not be for a few years until PHM is finishing up production.
