With an opening chapter the author has said is like a movie itself, it’s no surprise a Blacktop Wasteland adaptation was in the works shortly after the book was released.

This project is still in the very early stages of development as of Summer 2023.
 

Blacktop Wasteland Adaptation Timeline:

The books was first published in July 2020 and went on to be nominated for numerous mystery/thriller awards.
In October 2020 it was announced that the rights had been picked up and that Virgil Williams (Mudbound) had been brought on to write the script.
There have been no further updates regarding the status of the film and if it is being actively worked on.
 

Who Owns The Rights:

Picturestart and Get Lifted Film Co. have partnered to acquire the rights and produce a feature film adaptation. Get Lifted Film Co. is the production company of John Legend and Mike Jackson.
 

Who Is Attached:

As of Summer 2023 there have been no casting announcements or names attached to the film.
