From Scratch Adaptation (2022): Everything We Know So Far About The New Netflix Series

A cross-culture love story that takes place in Los Angeles and Italy sounds like a story made for the screen, and the fact that this From Scratch adaptation is based on a memoir just makes it all the more rich. Tembi Locke wrote the story of her love and life and it will be wonderful to see it taken to the screen.

About The Book:

It was love at first sight when Tembi met professional chef, Saro, on a street in Florence. There was just one problem: Saro’s traditional Sicilian family did not approve of him marrying a black American woman, an actress no less. However, the couple, heartbroken but undeterred, forges on.
They build a happy life in Los Angeles, with fulfilling careers, deep friendships and the love of their lives: a baby girl they adopt at birth. Eventually, they reconcile with Saro’s family just as he faces a formidable cancer that will consume all their dreams.
 
From Scratch chronicles three summers Tembi spends in Sicily with her daughter, Zoela, as she begins to piece together a life without her husband in his tiny hometown hamlet of farmers. Where once Tembi was estranged from Saro’s family and his origins, now she finds solace and nourishment—literally and spiritually—at her mother in law’s table.

All along the way she reflects on her and Saro’s incredible romance—an indelible love story that leaps off the pages.

The limited series is released as of October 2022.
 

From Scratch Adaptation Timeline:

The book was first published in April 2019. Later that year in November the From Scratch adaptation was officially announced by Netflix, along with Zoe Saldana set to star and Hello Sunshine co-producing.
The rest of the cast was announced in April 2021 as filming began in Los Angeles. In July production moved to Italy until filming wrapped in August. The series then moved into post-production.
In August 2022 the release date for later in the year was announced, along with first-look pictures.

As of July 2023 you can find the series on Netflix.
 

Reception:

The show currently has a 92% tomatometer and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. 7.9/10 on IMDb.

Hello Sunshine is producing the series with Netflix Co-producing and distributing.

Zoe Saldana is in the lead role with Eugenio Mastrandrea, Roberta Rigano, Ruby Kammer, Saad Siddiqui, and Jonathan Dylan King in supporting roles.
